The Arthur L. Johnson bowling team celebrated the success of Junior Captain Andrew Beach as he finished 3rd place in the Union County Individual tournament held at Jersey Lanes in Linden on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.
On Monday during the team competition, Andrew Beach qualified for the individual tournament by finishing 9th in the Union County with a 622 series. He returned on Wednesday for the next phase of competition where Andrew bowled a 704 series which moved him into 2nd place in ladder competition. Beach then waited to face the 5th seed, Roselle’s red-hot bowler, Louis Torres. Torres won his three previous matches to get to the second seed Andrew Beach who is averaging 202 during the regular season. Andrew Beach was ready to battle and bowled a brilliant game but Louis Torres went on to knock Beach out of the competition with a 259 to Beach’s 244 game and moved into the finals where he lost to Dayton’s Evan Weinberg. Andrew Beach and the Johnson bowling team is looking forward to the next competition the State Sectional Tournament which is 2:00 p.m. on February 2, 2018, at Jersey Lanes in Linden where the top two teams from each Group go on to compete for the State Finals and Tournament of Champions.

ALJ Student of the Month for January 2018 is Senior, Lindsey Hofschneider. Lindsey is the Vice President of National Honor Society, Student Council, Science Honor Society, and the Class of 2018. She is also a member of Key Club, UNICEF, Heroes & Cool Kids, Peer Leadership, and Vice President of Finance in DECA. Lindsey is a four year Varsity Cross Country, Winter, and Spring Track. When Lindsey isn’t running a meeting or a meet, she can be found at the dog park with her two dogs named Buddy and Rocky. She Enjoys hanging out with her friends and watching Netflix. Her favorite thing about ALJ is the sense of involvement within the school due to all of the extracurriculars offered. She also loves all of her teachers and the friends she has made throughout her four years here. After graduation, Lindsey will pursue her academic and athletic career, running cross country and track at a University. The ALJ Crusader of the Month for December 2017 is Tyler Bohm. The first team, all conference wrestler is involved in Student Council, UNICEF Club, and Crusader Athletic Leadership Council. He has shown Crusader Spirit by winning the honor of best teammate for both Wrestling and Cross Country. Tyler spends a lot of his time on the wrestling mat but also enjoys spending time with friends and family. He is always working on improving his time for Cross Country and planning the next Student Council Event. His favorite thing about ALJ is the spirited atmosphere, his peers, and his teachers. After graduation, Tyler plans on becoming a nurse in the Navy after graduating college. ALJ Student of the Month for December 2017 is Senior, Brandon Kennedy. Brandon is involved in many clubs at ALJ such as Key Club, Science League, and Science Olympiad. He has been inducted in the National Honors Society, Science Honors Society, and Spanish Honors Society. Not only has Brandon recieved High Honor Roll throughout his four years at ALJ, he also earned his varsity letter in Cross Country. Brandon also is on the swimming and spring track and field team. When Brandon is not finding new ways to educate himself, you can find him socializing and eating with friends. His favorite things about ALJ are the community of teachers and students, his courses, and of course spirit week. After high school Brandon plans to either become a Doctor or a Surgeon but he does not yet know what the future holds. He ultimately aspires to be happy and work on becoming the best person he can be. Mr. Reyes has announced that the 2019 international trip for 2019 will be to Italy. This is the only international trip open to students in 2019. There will be an informational session January 17th at 7pm in Room 33 at the Clark Community Center (Brewer).
The trip is a 10-day adventure spending time in Italy’s main attractions. Travelers will spend two days each in Venice, Florence, Pompeii/Sorrento/Capri, and Rome. “I have been working with Worldstrides for several trips. They provide an excellent product, with great hotels and virtually all-inclusive activities. Further details regarding price and activities will be given out at the meeting on January 17th. |
