ALJ Student of the Month for September 2017 is senior, George Visconti. This basketball captain, multi-club member is the Vice President of the class of 2018, Vice President of the National Honors Society, and the Vice President of DECA. George also received the Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award which is presented to a student who exhibits exceptional performance in areas of academics, athletics, community service, good citizenship, and leadership.
Not only is George an exceptional student and member of over five clubs at ALJ, he is also the all-time leading basketball scorer at Arthur L. Johnson. His sophomore year he hit his 1000th point basket, has been named MVP three times, and was part three conference champion teams. George’s favorite thing about ALJ is all of the opportunities provided for students such as AP courses, clubs, sports teams, and the fantastic faculty at ALJ. In his free time George likes to hang out with his friends, play basketball, and get involved in community service. George plans to attend college and continue his athletic career at one of his top schools. His ultimate goal is to receive his MBA in finance.

The ALJ Crusader of the Month for December 2016 is senior, Gina Pace. Gina is a varsity volleyball player and participates in clubs such as student council, TV club, speech and debate, and heros and cool kids. Gina is looking forward to traveling in the Spring to Switzerland and Italy with the History Club. In her free time, Gina is usually making videos for ALJ Today and she enjoys watching many TV shows including The Office. Gina aspires to attend college for four years and major in TV/Film production. She hopes to intern and eventually get a job for The Ellen Show. ALJ Crusader of the Month for November 2016 is senior, Gina Ferdinandi. Gina is a four-year varsity letter gymnast and two time Cougar and County champion. She is also a member of the Spanish Honors society.
In her free time, Gina likes to go down the shore where she enjoys hanging out at the beach with family and friends. Gina aspires to attend college to continue gymnastics at a collegiate level. She wants to become a physical therapist and one day open her own physical therapy business. ALJ Student of the Month for November 2016 is senior, Janelle Pyar. Janelle is the treasurer for the National Honor Society and Spanish Honors Society secretary. She is also a member of the Science National Honors Society; all while keeping up high honor roll status. She has played on the varsity volleyball team for three years, and has been captain for two. Other clubs that Janelle belongs to include heroes and cool kids, Crusader athletic leadership council, and peer leadership. In her free time Janelle plays volleyball for a club team and is part of a youth group. She also likes hanging out with her friends, watching movies, and spending time with her family. Her favorite thing about ALJ is gym class. She loves participating in different sports and the friendly competition. She also enjoys her math classes. Janelle wants to go to college and major in business. Janelle is a huge hockey fan so she hopes to work for the National Hockey League either in business or statistics. ALJ Student of the Month for October 2016 is senior, Krista Ginesi. Krista is a member of the National Honor Society and the Vice President of the Spanish Honors Society. She is also a member of the Science Honor Society, Key Club, and Chess Club all while keeping up high honor roll status. She has showed her school spirit by earning a varsity letter in Cheerleading all four years of her Johnson career.
In her free time Krista likes to shop, play tennis, and hang out with friends. Her favorite things about ALJ are the teachers and cheering on the football team. Krista traveled in the Spring of 2016 with the History Club to Spain and Portugal. Krista’s aspires to attend Marist College to major in fashion merchandising and she hopes to travel to Europe one day. ALJ Crusader of the Month for October 2016 is senior, Deserae Sequeira. Deserae is a four year varsity letter Soccer player, High Honor Roll student and the Treasurer of the French Honor Society. She is also a member of Key Club and DECA.
In her free time, Deserae likes to play games and talk with her family and friends. Her favorite thing about ALJ is the friendships she has made. Desarae traveled with the History Club to Spain and Portugal in the Spring of 2016. Deserae aspires to attend college to study business and also play collegiate Soccer. ALJ Student of the Month for September 2016 is senior, Eric Velasquez. Eric is a member of the National Honor’s Society and Chess Club. He has been on high honor roll since his freshman year, while also running Varsity Track all four years.
Eric was nominated to receive the Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award from the NJ West Point Parent’s Society by Mr. Delmonaco. Over the summer, he received the AP Scholar with Distinction Award. Outside of school, Eric is involved with the Salvation Army. He volunteers at a local kid’s club in Elizabeth where he does fundraisers throughout the winter. He also is a lifeguard at the Salvation Army Camp. In his free time Eric likes to attend Youth Group, play soccer and play video games with his friends. He also enjoys playing the guitar and exercising. Eric’s favorite things about ALJ are all the fantastic teachers and classes that he has had throughout his high school career. He also enjoys being a part of the track team. Eric aspires to attend college as an economics major. His ideal career would be working for the government as an ambassador to foreign countries. |
